Are MHTML and MHT the Same?

MHTML means MIME HTML. It stores a web page and supporting resources, such as images and styles, in one archive. .mhtml and .mht are two file extensions used for the same general format. Microsoft Edge and some other applications may describe the file as an MHT document, MHTML document or web archive.

PDF is usually easier to share, print and open across devices. Converting the archive also creates a fixed representation that does not depend on the recipient having the same browser or MHTML-compatible software.

Microsoft Edge MHTML Documents

If Microsoft Edge saved a page as an MHTML document, you can select that file directly in the converter. There is no need to rename .mhtml to .mht, or vice versa. After processing, compare the preview with the original page before using the PDF as a permanent record.

MHTML archives can contain browser-specific styles or resources that were not embedded when the page was saved. Complex pages may therefore look different after conversion. The converter works best when the original archive contains all of the images and styles needed to render the page.

Choose the Right PDF Output

The converter offers two output paths:

• Download PDF creates an image-based A4 PDF from the rendered page. This prioritizes visual reproduction, but text in the result may not be selectable.
• Save as PDF opens the browser's print workflow. This can preserve selectable text, and it lets you choose print settings before saving.

Use the preview to check page breaks, images and formatting. For long pages, the browser print option may give you more control over margins, orientation and scaling.

Private Browser-Based Conversion

Processing happens locally in your browser. The selected MHTML or MHT file is not uploaded to Fileverter's servers. This is useful for saved pages that may contain private account information, internal documentation or research.

Files up to 200MB are accepted, but a large archive can require much more than 200MB of working memory while its images and page canvas are rendered. Close unneeded tabs if a large conversion is slow, and avoid processing sensitive archives on a shared device.

Conversion Limitations

No converter can restore resources that are missing from the original web archive. Interactive scripts, video, animation, forms and some remote assets will not behave like the live website in a static PDF. Very long pages may also need adjusted print settings.

For the best result:

• confirm that the MHTML file opens correctly before conversion;
• use the HTML preview to inspect extracted content;
• choose the browser print option when selectable text matters;
• compare important records with the original saved page.
